For our Dalrymple Lecture Series, we are pleased to announce that Gavin Lucas will be lecturing on The Archaeology of Time. The series begins on Monday, February 18th, 2019, at 6.30pm in the Sir Charles Wilson Lecture Theatre, University of Glasgow (corner of Gibson Street and University Avenue). Further lectures will be held on consecutive days until Thursday, February 21st, 2019.
Please note these lectures will be held in a different venue from our usual Lecture Programme location. The lectures on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will all begin at the slightly earlier time of 6:30pm, with the final lecture on Thursday beginning at 7:30pm.
In this talk, Gavin Lucas will discuss the temporal structure of the archaeological record and the question of scale. Issues such as temporal resolution, time averaging and the long-term all intersect and raise questions about the appropriate time scale of archaeological analysis.
